Discover and learn how our stories of the “other” shape and maintain who we include and exclude in our relationships, communities and organisations.

What is it about? In our two days together, we will explore how our capacity as story-makers and meaning-makers influence our way of being with the “other”. We will also discover how the gifts of dignity, human connectedness and hospitality can open up possibilities in our relationships to “unother” the “other”.

We will focus on the following themes and questions:
• The role of culture and language in constructing the “other”
• Understanding privilege and power in inclusion
• Practices that includes and welcome the stranger/ “other”

The Facilitators: Chené Swart and Lungi Molamu, have been co-facilitating diversity and inclusion workshops together for nearly 10 years. Their work is built upon a deep friendship and love for narrative re-authoring ideas that continually open new ideas and practices in this work.

How will we learn? In this workshop we learn through conversation and the movement between content and life experiences. The learning experience seeks to ignite the beauty and dignity of all who participates. I will do my best to make our time over the 2 days as engaging as possible with enough breaks to keep the attention, small group conversations, content pieces, individual work, group conversations and sharing reflections.

And there is more: This workshop is one in a series of six workshops that can be attended as a whole or separately. These workshops address the most important themes of re-authoring ideas and practices over a 6-month period. The workshops are designed to be stand-alone experiences of learning so that participants can enter the journey at any point without feeling excluded. If you are interested in integrating the re-authoring ideas and practices into your life and work, you can also take part in an apprentice journey that will run simultaneously to the workshop mentioned above.

The Re-authoring Online Workshop Apprentice Journey is for those who would like to make this lens and practices a way of living and working. There are 5 workshops that address the most important themes of re-authoring ideas and practices. After completing each module, participants are invited to deepen their experience by re-authoring their own stories as well as the stories of their work through individual coaching (5 sessions) and integration conversations (5 sessions).

When you sign up for the apprentice journey, you automatically become part of a community of practice that gathers once a month to discuss the latest applications of these ideas and practices.

Included: 5 x 2-day workshops, 5 coaching sessions & 5 three-hour group integration sessions or one-and-a-half-hour individual integration sessions

We live in a world where the hunt is on to discover who we “really” are as individuals, teams, communities and organisations. In this hunting expedition we are expected to live according to our “true” or “authentic” nature and in line with our values individually and collectively.
